A member asked:

How does syphilis affect children born from it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Syphilis(s) is a germ that can pass to the fetus at any stage of pregnancy if it enters the blood stream at that time. If mom has treated or latent s prior to the pregnancy it may not be passed. If acquired early, it may abort the fetus. In mid or late pregnancy its effects vary. Some are born with infected organs, bone changes & meningitis. Some have no problems initially but develop sx later.
