Chemical imbalance : This illness may be hereditary. If the brain doesn't have the right amount of chemicals, mental illness occurs. Pos symptoms like hallucinations and paranoia happen and negative symptoms like withdrawal, poorly constructed speech/affect occur. With proper medication and monitoring these problems need not continue.

Brain disease: The theory behind the causes of schizophrenia are not, unfortunately, completely understood. It is a brain disease which affects 1% of the population and can be hereditary. It is felt to have to do with an excess of the neurotransmitter Dopamine in a part of the brain called the limbic system. The human brain is considered to be the most complicated and mysterious structure known in the universe.

Hallucinations: By definition, schizophrenia is about psychosis. Psychosis means the patient is getting external stimuli from the environment through one or more of his or her five senses, that does not objectively exist. In other words there are auditory, visual, olfactory, gustatory, and tactile hallucinations that can be experienced by the patient. Auditory hallucinations, however, are the most common.
