Varivax efficacy: The effectiveness of varicella vaccine varies in individuals. If you only had one vaccine you may not have full immunity to it and if you get the chicken pox after the vaccine it may be atypical in presentation and rashes. It may not be as wide spread as the usual chicken pox in unvaccinated people.

Yes: A single dose in childhood protects about 85% of recipients while 2 doses at least a month apart brings it up to >95%. Rarely, one could still get it but the partial protection provided by the vaccine series (2) would decrease the risks of a hard case marked by chickenpox pneumonia or other major complications.
