A member asked:

Would it be bad for me to take an anti-histamine if i have a cold?

Yes: I may be going against my peers here but i'd submit that your "cold" is caused by a virus and nothing in the chemical structure of an antihistamine addresses the underlying symptoms of the rhinovirus that caused your symptoms.Try rest, fluids, and soup.If the congestion is too much use pseudophed for nasal decongestion.Anti-histamines address allergies well:not colds.

Not bad, but...: Not bad, but an anithistamine is better at treating allergies and hay fever than cold symptoms. For the congestion caused by colds, decongestants are preferred. However, a number of cold medications contain sedating antihistamines, mainly to help you sleep.
