What is the best way to fix annoying tantrums in a 4 year old?

Temper tantrums: Temper tantrums should be ignored and not be catered to. The chold should be placed in time out if persistent ala supernanny. Avoiding triggers should help.

Time-out: The way to make a behavior go away is to ignore it. Time-out is effective. Tell him your rule & the consequence when he's calm. Show him the " naughty spot" & the timer. When he tantrums, give only 1 warning, then walk him from behind to that spot. Don't talk or make eye contact. He'll test you & try to engage you. Start the timer when he stays put & is quiet.Read " little people" or 123 magic.
