Neither: Silvadene is a very good medication for early open burn wounds in order to minimize infection and the potential for future scarring due to delayed healing. However, in and of itself, it is not an effective scar treatment once the wounds have healed. Although folklore commonly promotes the use of vitamin e, there is insufficient evidence to support its use un scar prevention.
