What can you do about tooth loss on account of crack addiction?

15 doctors weighed in across 3 answers

Stop using crack: The problem with your teeth is dwarfed by your addiction. Taking care of one's mouth requires minimal self discipline. The same rules and regimen apply to the addict as the non-addict. Keep food debris off your teeth and gums by cleaning them after having food. This includes beverages containing sugar. Control your plaque and you'll control your tooth loss. Get into a program - save your life too.

Get clean: That's where it starts for addicts. Once your clean you can address your tooth loss by seeing a dentist but until your clean there isn't going to be much hope for any dental problems you have.

Get CLEAN. Good luck: Teeth have enough trouble resisting wear and tear of normal life. The abuse inflicted by drug use magnifies the problems dramatically. Like cold medicine, that does not remove the cause of the symptoms, but only masks the symptoms, drug use is the same. If you've decided to stop hiding behind the mask and make a choice to live your life sober, talk to a caring dentist who can help repair damage.
