Yes: Thiomerisol has proven an effective preservative when used in vaccines for decades. Used primarily in vials carrying multiple doses, it suppresses bacterial contamination that might be introduced by repeated needle entry. The epa in its zeal set a lifetime exposure standard (out of thin air) that researchers realized might be breached by vaccines.Only a few now use it.
