Yes: There are approximately 6, 500 cases of leprosy in the U.S., 90 percent of which are in immigrants from countries where the disease is endemic. Those with active disease and requiring drug treatment is approximately 600.

Yes: Not many--less than 200 cases per year. Many of the cases are acquired in other countries, but some are acquired here. Fortunately, leprosy (hansen's disease) is not very contagious.
