What is bruising around the periumbilical region a sign of?

Cullen's sign: Classically bruising of the subcutaneous tissue around the umbilicus is a sign of hemorrhagic pancreatitis. It can also be a sign of other bleeding into the abdomen. Here's a link: http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/cullen's_sign. If you have this and are otherwise well, i wouldn't pay too much attention. If you are ill (especially very ill) and you have this, go to an emergency room.

Agree with Dr. L.: If you are not seriously ill, it is just a bruise, as anywhere else. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs. For nutrition: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/.
