Alzheimer's Dementia: Alzheimer's is a type of dementia, not something that is different from it. There are other types of dementia also. In general, dementias are disorders where the person is alert but has lost function in the areas of thinking, reasoning, memory, and organizational ("executive") tasks. Alzheimer's dementia is the most common type. Memory loss and other cognitive symptoms appear early in its course.
