Is there any association between hair recession and hair thin / thickness?

Yes: Yes, as men experience development of male pattern baldness (alopecia) , the affected hairs may become minaturized before they fall out. This combination of thinning of the caliber of the hair and the loss of existing hairs causes the combination of thinning and recession of the hairline.
