Weigh the results: Yes one can be hurt by performing the heimlich maneuver as well as cpr. Broken ribs, etc. Can occur, but the alternative to saving one's life sure should outweigh not trying. There should be more of a push for proper cpr/choking training, which in dentistry, we are required to re-certify every 2 years. You don't need a professional license to obtain training. Experts cause broken bones too.
