Is it bad for my eyesight to watch tv for over an hour each day?

No : The eyes work at 100% alll the time. As long as the images your viewing are not too bright (welding arc, etc) then what you watch does not harm the eye. Certain tv programs may rot your brain but they will not harm your eye.
