Depends: Braces have very specific uses and should not be the standard treatment of knee problems. In general, a brace will inhibit the quad muscles, often causing more problems than benefits. However, specific braces can take load off of one side of a knee for certain arthritic joints, and specific braces can stabilize the kneecap. Still others control stability in cases of mcl injuries. Best to check!

Occasionally: An unloading knee brace can be beneficial for people with arthritis in one side of the knee. Many people are not good candidates for bracing because of their body habitus though.
