It can: It can. You can bleed from varices: dilated blood vessels in the esophagus. People with cirrhosis can also bleed from the usual causes, such as gastritis and ulcers, especially if they're drinking. It's generally recommended that people with cirrhosis get an upper endoscopy to find out whether they have varices, since there are things that can be done to prevent them from bleeding.
