A member asked:

Which medicine is stronger, the amoxicillin or the augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Strong vs effectiv: Some germs have developed resistance(r) to antibiotics& the effective abx is the one that kills the germ. Both amoxicillin(am) &augmentin(au) kill the same way at roughly the same speed. As such, strength is the same. Au is am with an extra part that disables one form of r.If you have a resistant bug, it would be more effective but involves more side effects. If no r, the am works as well.
