A custom one.: Do it yourself "boil and bite" mouth guards will not provide the needed space around the brackets. This is definitely a situation that warrants a custom made guard by your dentist.

Check with: Your orthodontist. There are many different set-ups, so only he or she can recommend an appropriate mouthguard. Kudos for thinking about wearing one!

Ask your Orthodontis: You will need a mouthguard that takes your tooth movement and braces into consideration. Check with your orthodontist to see what he.She recommends. You will definitely need one for rugby!

Ask orthodontist: Typically, a generic fitting mouthguard is suggested. Molded devices are not recommended as they may either prevent tooth movement or as teeth move, the device will not fit. Ask your orthodontic specialist for their specific recommendation.

Braces mouthguard: Mouthguard should be worn for all contact sports, with or without braces. Orthodontic mouthguard must be designed to: 1) protect teeth, gums, inside of lips and cheeks, and 2) allow teeth to move freely (straighten) within the mouthguard. Ask your orthodontic specialist for a recommendation. There are many choices. By the way, mouth guard will reduce risk of concussion common with rugby.
