Yes it can: Also some times there may be an odor to it too. Wash all the fruits and vegetable before consumption. Do not eat raw meat. Wash hands handling meats and other food items.

Salmonella: Salmonella does not usually affect the taste or smell of food to include chicken. Ref: https://now.tufts.edu/articles/food-bacteria-smell-taste-bad-illness. It doesn't usually change to appearance of food. However, an Environmental Salmonella Test does change color if Salmonella is present.
