A member asked:

How is it possible to be allergic to augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) or cefaclor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Both are protein: Allergies can to develop to protein containing materials that the body recognizes foreign. Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) and Cefaclor are antibiotics that have specific proteins & the body may make antibodies to it like it would to a viral protein or a food. You may have taken them before without a problem, but that exposure may have set you up for a later reaction. Some people react the 1st time it is given.
