Safe: There is always a risk with surgery and anesthesia. However, a children's hospital with anesthesiologists on staff who have received special training in pediatric anesthesia is the best way to ensure your child is well taken care of during surgery and anesthesia.

There are risks: There are always risks with any procedure, be it surgical, dental, or anesthetic. You should have a discussion with the anesthesiologist who is doing the procedure, so they can clearly define the risks and benefits. At this point you will be able to make an informed addition that is best for your child. General anesthesia for a child is very safe.
