Toxic Shock syndrome: Yes, the initial inciting factor may be different, but the clinical presentation and the course of the disease is the same. Often it is triggered by a focus of infection somewhere in the body and then the infection spread into the blood stream and the bacteria produces toxins that cause the clinical picture

Yes: Toxic Shock Syndrome can occur with use of superabsorbent tampons/ contraceptive sponges, viral infections, burns/ abrasions to skin or recent surgery. it is not just reserved to women.
