Traumatic things: Most often it is painful, traumatic events or even entire time periods in which they occurred. Could be things like war, abuse, accidents, or disasters that the person has experienced or witnessed. Can also forget anything which might be a triggering connection to the painful events. For instance, i know people who cannot remember anything of their childhoods below age 8-10.

Simple and complex: My average pt in a practice riddled with dissociative disorders over 20 years ago could recall little before their 16th birthday. Typical is amnesia of past events. Current events are disremembered relationships, "friends", travel, purchases, statements, arguments, insults, drinking and drug binges, sexual exploits, sexual abuse in the present, hang-up phone calls inviting your alters to cults, etc.
