Several qualifiers: Hospitalization is needed for those conditions which cannot be managed as an outpatient.The prominent factors include: is the patient able to take oral medications & hold down enough fluids to stay hydrated? Is the germ causing the UTI one that can be treated in pregnancy with an oral medication? Is patient free of other complications? If any of these is no, a hospitalization may be needed.
