Is there some interaction between my jewelry and the hand sanitizer?

Yes: Hand sanitizer is mostly ethyl alcohol with occasional scent. This can harm and stain some porous jewelery such as pearls and gemstones that are considered soft such as jade and amethyst to name a few. Best advise, if you are going to use sanitizer avoid contact with jewelery!
