Surgical procedure : Aortic valve replacement is a surgical operation where the heart is stopped while the body is on cardiopulmonary bypass machine. The diseased valve is cut out and a new prosthetic valve from a pig or cow or a mechanical valve is sewn in. The operation takes 3-4 hours to complete and you can stay in hospital for 4-7 days.
