A member asked:

Is it a big deal if you have alpha thalsemia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: There are four genes for the Alpha chain of hemoglobin. Loss of one gene is asymptomatic, loss of two may cause mild anemia, loss of three usually causes severe anemia, loss of all four is not compatible with life.
