Tincture of time: The right approach depends on identifying the cause. For example, a traumatic ulcer may be due to an accidental bite injury, or due to friction against a sharp tooth, appliance, or prosthetic device, and elimination of the cause is curative. Canker sores are of unknown cause, and time alone will allow healing. There are other ulcerative mucous membrane diseases, and diagnosis is necessary for cure.
