A member asked:

How long does it take to get over hives?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Acute/chronic hives: Hives vary greatly in duration, so we call hives lasting <6 wks acute, and >6 weeks chronic. It depends on the cause. A mild drug reaction may cause hives lasting only a day or two; a severe one up to 6 months. Chronic idiopathic urticaria resolves at a rate of approx 10% each month, but not every case resolves. Hives due to a known cause recur whenever re-exposure takes place. No simple answer!
