A member asked:

Can a ultrasound of the heart detect heart defect in asymptomatic adult?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly...: You may have a "subclinical" defect (such as a very small atrial septal defect) that is not large enough to generate symptoms, yet could potentially be picked up on an echocardiogram. You may also have the most common congenital heart defect ( a bicuspid aortic valve) which could also be picked up on echo and which could be asymptomatic.
