3-7 days: If you are too uncomfortable to wait a couple of days for the symptoms to subside, you may use otc nicotine patches or gum to withdraw gradually. Be aware that a desire to smoke will occur from time to time long after nicotine withdrawal because smoking has been a habit.

Usually about 3 wks: Nicotine withdrawal symptoms can be diminished by using nicotine replacement drugs (gum, patch, inhaler, nasal spray) and/or other pills (bupropion, varenicline). Talk to your doctor, get a date on the calendar, alert your friends & family that you need their support, and do yourself the biggest favor of your life and quit (if you have not already). Good luck.

Depends: I have seen patients who can just quit cold turkey, others may take days.
