Parkinson's disease: Carbidopa /l-dopa; Dopamine (da) is deficient in parkinson's. Da does not cross from blood to brain. Instead its precursor l-dopa gets into the brain and is converted into da by dopa decarboxylase (ddc) once inside the brain. Ddc is also in the bloodstream and converts ldopa to da in blood which causes nausea. Carbidopa inhibits ddc in blood, reducing nausea and allowing more ldopa in the brain.
