Use in moderation: Artificial sweeteners don't cause cavities to occur and are fairly low in calories. However, consuming large amounts of artificial sweeteners may have a laxative effect. But with rare exceptions, they appear to pose little or no risk when used in moderation. Although artificial sweeteners are considered generally safe, some experts remain wary still because not enough long term data and history.
