Many criteria: The criteria are grouped into infectious, obstructive, and other. More than 7 episodes of tonsillitis in 12 months meets the criteria, but fewer episodes that are prolonged may also meet criteria. Strep tonsillitis is more compelling for tonsillectomy. Prior peritonsillar abscess. Obstructive criteria include obstructive sleep disordered breathing & severe dysphagia. Also, one tonsil much larger.
