A member asked:

When is it medically necessary to have tubes put in ears?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good question: I believe that ENT doctors are putting in too many tubes. I believe the appropriate indications are the following: a child or adult who has had a minimum of 3-4 documented ear infections in a 1 year period. 2.) fluid that has been documented to have been retained in the middle ear space for 3 months or longer. A ventilation tube also has a number of risks and should be discussed by ear doc.
