Increased estrogen: Many women have increased sensitivity or even soreness in the nipples as their estrogen levels increase during their menstrual cycle. Taking estrogen for menopause can also do this. Also, clothing rubbing on the breasts, a poorly fitting bra, or other stimulation can make the nipples sore.Try using nipple shields like nursing mothers use to help prevent continued irritation.
