Can spinal disc herniation be hereditary?

No.: Disc herniation is the result of tearing of the ligamentous wrapping arounfd the disc, the annulus fibrosis. This can result from injury or be spontaneous. There is some evidence that degenerative disc disease can be hereditary. I am not aware of evidence of a heretitary component for disc herniation though. Someone may know otherwise.

There can be a : a genetic predisposition for disc disease. This is also noted for some other types of spine issues like scoliosis and spondylolisthesis but sometimes there are also other factors that may be involved.
