Unclear: While there may be some "herbal" treatments for allergies which are effective, there is no medical literature at this time which delineates which treatments those may be, so no further recommendations can be made at this time. That being said, there is some research being done at mount sinai in nyc looking at an herbal preparation which shows promise in treating allergies. Stay tuned...

Be careful: Most mds choose to use pharmaceutical drugs knowing these agents have been tested & their side-effects, interactions and benefits recorded. They also know the source of the drug & can rely on its purity & dosage. This is often less true with herbal remedies; that's why physicians are wary of them. Use the same degree of objective scrutiny with herbs as you do with standard drugs before deciding.

Drugs are natural: Nothing unnatural about drugs. Botanists find wild plants that are tested for abilities to help treat a disease. Next the principal beneficial & harmful ingredients are identified & if possible separated. If the beneficial & harmful effects are present in the same ingredient scientists attempt to alter it to improve effectiveness & minimize side effects. Drugs are optimized natural remedies.
