I have striae stretch marks on my legs, but why?

Cause...?: Although stretch marks are pervasive and well described, the cause is not fully understood. Clearly stretch alone is not the only reason because patients with breast implants rarely get stretch marks. However, stretch combined with hormonal changes seems to be related to the etiology. Why they occur in certain areas and not in others is not understood as well. For example men also are effected.
