Sulfonamide: "sulfa" allergy is a misnomer. The proper term is sulfonamide allergy. This poor precision of language has resulted in much confusion for patients and practitioners alike. In any case, even if you are allergic to sulfonamide antibiotics, clindamycin, a macrolide, is safe to take without risk of cross reaction.
