Yes: Simplified: Claritin (loratadine) is made up of 2 parts of the molecule- the active part and an inactive part. Clarinex is made up of just the active component. Some people find using Clarinex better relief than claritin (loratadine). However to others the effectiveness is the same.

Yes: Clarinex is desloratidine, the major metabolite of loratidine or claritin (loratadine). So, when you take loratidine, the body turns much of it into desloratidine. Clinically, there is not much difference between the two.
