A cause of diarrhea: Osmosis is the movement of water across a membrane and naturally occurrs to acheive homeostasis. When you consume a concentrated substance which cannot be absorbed, this substance pulls water out of your intestinal mucosa and bloodstream and into the lumen of your bowels causing it to be watery (ex: sorbitol, lactulose, polyethylene glycol (miralax), sodium phosphate (fleets) and others).
