What's the purpose of a vaginal douche?

Misguided hygiene: The concept is that it cleans the vagina. Unfortunately it disrupts the natural vaginal balance, does nothing to treat infections, and may actually cause irritation. The best that can be said is that sometimes it causes no harm.

Douche: Companies that sell douches advertise them as a vaginal wash to improve hygiene. The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists recommends AGAINST Douching.
