Neurological problem: As the sodium level drops the most common first symptom is altered mental status. Then patients may develop lack of coordination and ataxia. If the sodium level continues to drop below 120 patients may develop seizure.. Cerebral edema is a potentially life threatening condition that develops if the sodium level drops too fast.
