2 questions: Long qt is due to an inherited genetic abnormality. In the general population, it is very rare, but in a general cardiology practice it is seen occasionally, and in an electrophysiology practice, it's common. Heart arrhythmias are everyday occurrences everywhere. Long qt is capable of producing life threatening rhythm disturbances. Passing out with long qt is an emergency.
