A member asked:

Has anyone ever been misdiagnosed with achalasia, when actually you had dysphasia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unlikely : There are however a couple diagnosed that can be mistaken for achalasia and they are scleroderma, and severe changes with ineffective esophageal motility (iem). This is because the manometry trst can loook similar. The way to reduce misdiagnosis is to put together the story, physical, and all the test results including endoscopy and contrast x-ray.
