The major difference between ulcerative colitis and IBS is that ulcerative colitis causes visible inflammation and sores along the top lining of the large intestine and rectum, whereas in IBS there is no visible tissue inflammation.

No: No. IBS is a functional disorder causing symptoms like pain and diarrhea in the absence of inflammation. Ulcerative colitis is an immune mediated inflammatory disease causing tissue destruction. IBS does not lead to colitis.
