When does a liver transplant need to be done for hepatitis treatment?

When the liver fails: The hepatitis C virus does not affect all patients with the same degree of injury. Some may carry the virus in a non-aggressive state for many many years. Others have a aggressive disease in which the liver becomes inflamed and may scar, called cirrhosis. If normal function of the liver stop and symptoms of liver failure develop, the liver would need to be replaced with a transplant.
