Depends on the virus: Hepatitis a is from fecal-oral hepatitis b is any body fluid and is whenever the virus is active. Hepatitis c is by blood and can happen as long as the person has virus in their blood.

If you are talking about viral hepatitis, then there are several different viruses, Hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. How each of them are spread is different.
