Yes: Bacteremia is bacteria in the blood stream which may seed anything from heart valves, artificial joints, & your fetus. This is why we give prophylactic antibiotics before some dental procedures, minor surgeries, or anything that can release bacteria into your system. You do not have to be septic to do this.
